I guess this should really be titled: “4 examples of better comedy released by the BBC rather than any american channel,” but that was a little too long. Or, it could be titled “how my nonexposure to cable as a child shaped my love for watching old British comedies on PBS late at night,” but again, consider the length.
John Cleese: one of the funniest people ever. Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, …1948–classy, classy TV.
2.
Ricky Gervais: creator of The Office, Extras, producer for the American Office…funny, funny man.
3.
This is one of my most favorite of shows of all time: Are You Being Served? It’s about the ladies and gents counters at a department store, and never ceases to crack me up. So classy and so 70s, it’s a great show.
4.
Patricia Routledge: Sooo funny. She was the classy Hyacinth Bucket (pronouced “Bouquet”) with all of her Candlelight Suppers in “Keeping Up Appearances”…haha. And investigated crimes so cooly in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, with the guy who would later play a hobbit. classic!
