I haven’t? Well, I have, but let me tell you a little more:
I had never heard of Chris Merritt before I went to one of his shows instead of roller skating like 10 sec before I graduated from college. I went because all my guy friends were going, and he came highly recommended by one of these friends, Mark, who is really Jack Kerouac with a beard.
The venue was a gallery that had shows on the weekends (this is the same place where I also saw David Bazan (! Twice!), The Umbrellas, Man Man, et al), and was really cool. It was a photography studio in an old warehouse type building on the very west end of downtown, right before you got to the ghetto, if you could have even called it that, and they never set up chairs. They would just open the door with a guy and a cash box and wait for the droves of people to come.
ANYWAYS, we went to this show, and I’ve never 1. seen my friends Soul Train dance so much before in my life 2. danced so much like I was on the main stage on Soul Train in my life. There was maybe 40 people tops at this show, but it lasted until midnight, with free PBR for the taking, and we ended the night at IHOP with toast & hashbrowns.
So what am I saying all of this to you? Did I get engaged at this concert? No. Did I meet Chris Merritt? No. Did something life changing, other than dancing it up super-white* (*lame) style all night? No.
BUT I’m sharing because I’ve been listening to Chris Merritt all day. And I think you should too! And it’s Friday and I have 10 more min. left at work and it’s going to be a good weekend.
Start with Virginia. Then listen to Dance Karate. Then Tower of Sand. You can even get a lot of these songs for free on the internets, so you have no excuse!
Cheers!
