Awesome Posters : Dirk Fowler

Dirk Fowler of F2-Design has a great collection of show posters he’s created, most with sly visual puns and super style.  I found these over at GrainEdit, who pointed out that they, like many people, start into graphic design creating things like band posters, and I have to totally agree!  That’s how I started in...

Illustration Thursday : Abner Graboff

Abner Graboff was an illustrater and designer in the 50s-60s with just an amazing style.  He did everything from children’s books to book jackets to possibily the CBS ‘eye’ logo.  Ward-o-Matic has a great interview with Jon Graboff, Abner’s son, about his father’s influences, history and work.  Great read! Cheers! (‘Where are all the illustration...

The Futura Tenenbaums

Mark Simonson has a great write up about the use of fonts in various movies (search “Son of Typecasting“), including The Royal Tenenbaums.  The film uses primarily Futura, which Wes Anderson uses in all of his films, for everything from the titles to the credits.  Simonson also points out the use of Helevetica in the...

Pardon My Hindi : Mumbai Smoke Silkscreen Print

Lovely poster from Pardon My Hindi, which is sort of like a dude and a group-input, and sort of ezine collective (?-I’m making this up) that produces prints, shirts, and buttons and other random stuff for the internets.  ANYWAYS, the stuff is super cool.  I really like this poster. I don’t know if its the...

An awesome shopped filled with super cute decorations and kids-type stuff, I would even mind hanging some of these things from Petit Collage in my own house.  Featuring silkscreen posters, mobiles, and laser-cut wood pieces, this shop is precious and available over on Etsy. Here’s some more that are just precious: Bamboo Mobile Deer Friends...

To the Cinema! : Blackboard Jungle

Ok, so, a few weeks ago, I rented Singing in the Rain, because I’d never watched it in all my years, sad face.  And it was awesome.  So I told my mom, and she gave me a short list of 50s movies that I need to lay my eyes on.  And one of those films...

Alphabet Bags : Ampersand Tote

These totes are awesome!  Alphabet Bags is the home to a ton of really cool, well, totes featuring the letters of the alphabet in this really sweet, classic Diodoni.  They are based out of the UK, and are made by the same people who were originally responsible for the Keep Calm poster craze (Well, the...

Rubber Stamp Business Cards

Created by the Fischer agency over in Portugal, these ecologically friends business cards are great.  You just use a rubber stamp instead of a printed card, and whatever scrap paper you have available.  I think this is a super idea.  Three Cheers! Found over at Quipsologies.

Co-Op Stamp : Belgium 1970

This is a great find from over at GrainEdit: a postage stamp promoting ‘international coopertaive alliance” from Belgium.  Three cheers, this is awesome.  I love the repetitive style and the orange used. And I’m pretty sure that typeface in the orange field is a straight rip-off of the ABC logo designed by Paul Rand in...
