There goes Your Morning : I Love TV Intros

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

As previously expressed, one thing that I absolutely love is typography in video, whether it be movie titles, television bumps, etc.  I Love TV Intros is a online collection of just that-tv show intros, organized by decade and alphabetical(!).  I get really nostalgic about my childhood tv favorites, so this was just a real treat to find.

To the Cinema! : How to Succeed in Business…

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

So a few weeks ago, I was at yet another library sale in town, and found an old VHS copy of “How to Succeed in Business…,“  a 60′s Broadway musical starring a one Robert Morse.  It follows the metoeric rise of a young man from the mailroom to the board room in a matter of days.  The play is humorous and crisp, with fantastic visuals and modern songs.  It also playfully describes and exploits the typical 60s business workplace, with all female secretaries, a president’s mistress, and all old men at the top.

The lead actor, Robert Morse, does an excellent job.  He’s funny and creates a very lovable character that you really wish would win in the end, despite the sort of sneaky nature in which he accomplishes his tasks.  He can sing, the dancing is pretty good, and he also playing the character originally on Broadway.

But where did this guy come from?  What has he been in since its release in 1968?  I’ve watched quite a few musicals and didn’t recognize this dude from anything, so I decided to investigate, and this what I found:

ROBERT MORSE PLAYS BERT COPPER ON MAD MEN

The same dude who plays in a contemporary 60s musical about the corporate rise of a regular dude in 60s NYC ends up playing an ad partner in a contemporary 00s drama about a 60s office in NYC.

Way to blow my mind, Universe.

Family Meeting: How was your Summer?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Has it been hot where you are?  Did you get all your school clothes together and on sale?  Did someone new sit at your lunch table?  Well, I’m glad.  I love this time of year!

Well, anyways, this summer (well, more like August) as been, for a lack of better terms, freakin’ nuts.  But let’s read through this while looking at some cool summer pictures.  Tops?  ok!

I visited some awesome college friends in St. Louis, applied for a new job, interviewed, and GOT THE NEW JOB, went to Disney World for my birthday, went to a infographics conference, and started Photoshop class.  And to think it’s almost Labor Day!

And everyone knows what happens when a toon’s in trouble things get freakin’ nuts: posting stuff I love goes from semi-regular to none at all.  This is sad to me, but just how life goes.  And I’m not totally sure of the future of this blog for the next phase of my life.

Not that it’s going down with the ship or that this bird is flying the coop or some other cliche that could possibly explain what is happening.  I just am currently unsure of the frequency and freshness of posting for the next few months.  We’ll have to see, but we’re in this together, so everything will be ok.

See, I got this new job that I’m super stoked about, but we’ll have to see how much ‘free time’ I’ll be able to scrounge up.  I acutally have to supervise people and stuff.  So we’ll see.

Wow : Variations on Normal

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Variations on Normal is a little website by Dominic Wilcox with illustrations and photos about just that : Different ways of doing normal things.  I was really pleasently suprised about these ideas. They’re fun, thoughtful and unique.

Cheers!

Wow : IdeaPaint

Monday, June 29th, 2009

This is one of the most amazing ideas ever : IdeaPaint creates a white, dry erase board anywhere it’s painted.  I thought it all stopped with chalkboard paint, but boy was I wrong.  IdeaPaint comes in up to 10 different colors and just rolls right now and can be painted over with no hassle.  It’s a bit on the expensive side (even for the DIY consumer stuff), but if you’ve got the perfect place, it would be totally worth it.

Cheers!

Web Wednesday: Markit.net

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Something I totally wish I had while I was still in college: MarkIt is a ‘Web 2.0′ application that allows you to bookmark stuff by highlighting right on the page.  This is such a good idea and a good start to these kinds of web applications.  Cheers!

Hey. I’ve missed you too.

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Ok, so as you can probably tell by the think layer of guilt and dust on this here ‘ole blog, it’s been awhile.  Actually, its been more like a freakin’ long while.  And this is my fault.  I apologize.  Let’s dust this thing off, and I’ll give my reasons for unintentional abandonment:

First. of. all: NO ONE freakin’ informed me upon entering the work force at my day job that life would cease to exist during the entire 30 days that is April.  NO ONE!   What do I mean?  See, I started this blog when I job my frist big-kid job last summer because I work at a college and nothing happens in July and August.  And it’s because everything must and does happen in April, apparently.  And instead of tip-tapping around here in my free time (which is a lot usually), I had to work, because there was no free time to be had. So unfortunately, I had to pass my time working (WTC!) instead of finding sweet and tasty bits of internet design goodness to share with you, my reader.  I know, it’s sad. You can cry if you want.

Second: And not only was I incrediaby busy 8-5, but I had to spend several week days and weekends doing work for the 3452392723 events we had this month.  So I was working during the day in dress clothes, and also had to come in other times and wear even nicer clothes and take fancy pictures of our fancy events.  Too many fancy outfits!

But anyways, it’s May now, and finals weeks i this week, which means HELLO SUMMER! Let’s blog like we’ve got nothing better to do! Which is both the sad and fun truth!   It’s going to be a crazzzy summer, yo! Well, maybe not crazy to the extent that it justifies 3 “z”s, but defiantly crazy enough for 2.

CHEERS!*

*I’ve really missed that…DOUBLE CHEERS!

Must-Stache – watch more funny videos

So things have been extra-super-to the Xtreme crazy recently at work and I’ve been dealing with some major fatigue-cold-can’t really-think-clearly sickness, thus the desert of non-posts that has become this blog. And for this, I apologize. But please, take this token of briefly funny mustache humor as a token of my gratitude of your readership.

It’s not that I haven’t wanted to blog, or even bookmarked things to intentionally blog about later, I’ve just been swamped. And last night, I was supposed to teach a workshop about web design, but some people in our tech support failed to do their jobs, so I couldn’t do mine and wasted a bunch of hours doing nothing. A+ in sucking it up, computer support! Way to not go!

But tomorrow is Friday and we can all be thankful for that. So let’s just start off on Monday afresh or anew or awhatever.

Cheers!

Sound of Music Dance-a-long in Antwerp!

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

This is BY FAR one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time: A huge group of awesome people put together an Improv Everywhere type event at the Central Station in Antwerp (WHERE I’VE TOTALLY BEEN), dancing to “Do, a Deer.” THIS IS AWESOME! ALL CAPS AWESOME!

And can I just say that I’m the ultimate sucker for things like this, surprise things when complete strangers get together for something and just be awesome for the sake of the other strangers experiencing it. I just love that whole idea of camaraderie between strangers and appreciation for us as people for the sake of everyone and the art of being human….I just love it!

Earth Hour 2009

Friday, March 27th, 2009

With an amazing effort of the WWF in an international effort to bring about a movement toward climate change, Earth Hour is 60 minutes of darkness, multiplied over millions around the world.  Fantastic method and heart behind the effort, I think this is great. The 2009 Earth Hour will be TOMORROW, March 28 at 8:30pm local.

You can read more about Earth Hour, donwload cool posters, stickers, videos, etc to share, at their website.  The site has a great international community and people are talking!  Fantastic!
